Field2Base consists of a Tablet PC, operating software, forms engine and communications server. The tool does not require any computer skills to operate, appearing to the user as a thick “yellow pad”. Fabtrol

Fabtrol / Timberline Interface (FTI)

General Purpose

The FTI program was designed to bridge the gap between Fabtrol and Timberline for common transactions that are generated in one system and duplicated in the other. The intent is to automate the process as much as possible to eliminate duplication of effort and possible inconsistent data in the two systems.

There are currently four common transactions (“touch points”) that could reside in both systems. They are; Budgets (or Estimates); Purchase Orders (Committed Costs); Stock Issues (Direct Costs) and Payroll Entries.

The Process

Each of these four touch points has an export feature within Fabtrol and an import feature within Timberline. The FTI program translates the Fabtrol export files into Timberline compatible import files. The export procedure in Fabtrol currently takes transactions from each of these areas and creates a separate ASCII common delimited text file.

These files are stored in a pre-determined folder on the file server. These text files are exported in a standard format and contain all fields associated to that type of record. In the existing state, these file would not be recognized by the Timberline import programs. The Aktion FTI Program locates the exported files and re-exports those files in a format that the Timberline import will accept. These reformatted export files are stored in a pre-determined folder on the file server.

A copy of the Fabtrol export files are copied to a “backup”folder for retrieval in case a failure occurs. Once re-exported, the files can then be imported using the Timberline import features. These import processes will check each transaction to make sure it will pass the import.

Transactions that cannot be imported are stored in a reject file and a report is produced as to the nature of the reject. The reject file can then be corrected and re-imported if needed. The FTI program can be run as often as needed and will convert ALL Fabtrol export files it discovers.

Installation and Configuration

The program will need to be configured to map the proper fields from Fabtrol to Timberline. This is a one-time program configuration, unless there are changes to the program or the fields identified during the mapping. We will need to work with your Fabtrol and Timberline consultants to identify how and where this information will reside within each system.
